Temperature & Heat

Notes for Chapter 6

Summary for chapter 6 is below:

We need to know what is the definition of heat.

Heat is the measure of hotness/coldness of an object/environment

the SI unit is Kelvin.

Heat can be transfered through 3 ways

conduction
when two object are in contact, one object with higher temperature will give out energy to the object with a lower temperature.
e.g. when two persons shake hands

convection
it happens in fluids (gas / liquid)
e.g. magma from volcano

radiation
the object no need to in contact
e.g. the fried chicken is kept warm using light in the mamak stall

 definition here Archimedes Principle Notes

Archimedes principle is

when an object is partially or fully immersed in water, the buoyant force is equals to the weight of the water displaced.

the formula for buoyant force is

Fb = actual weight - apparent weight
Fb = RhoVg

We have been taught by Pn Syarifah on the application of Archimedes Principle in real life.

Submarine

The ship will sink under water when the water is going into ballasts tank of the ship, therefore
the weight of the ship is beyond the Buoyant force. therefore it is under the water.

To make the ship to sail on the water, the ship need to pull out the water from the tank, then the weight of the ship will become less, then the ship can be seen on the water.

then, we are doing exercises in the workbook regarding the archimedes principle.
